Summer Belly Dance Shimmy Camp near Disneyland CA

Do you live near Disneyland CA and you are dying to learn to belly dance?

I've been teaching belly dance for 20 years and am amazed at the number of women that would love to learn but they don't have the money or the class is the wrong day of the week or they don't have childcare or whatever.
So this summer I am making an insane offer. I am going to be teaching belly dancing classes Mon through Fri from 7-8 PM with troupe practice from 8-9 PM and the cost will be based on donation or trade. If you are capable of paying, it will be $7.00 a class. If you are flat broke, we will be working out a sliding scale or a trade. A trade can be something like providing a room for the class or childcare so another mom can take the class, or sewing troupe costumes or cooking or something that is right up your alley. You can take one class a week or more.
If you are a beginner, I suggest you take the classes a while before you do the troupe practices. If you already know how to dance, I may bump you right into the troupe...no point wasting time as we reinvent the wheel.

Update

I am sorry things have been so slow here. I'm trying to get NOVA (National Organization for Variety Artists) off the ground. Our first meeting got rained out, but I'm going to try again next Sat. at a park in Anaheim CA. Plus I've been working on more dance costumes, using up my stash of beads and trying not to buy any more stuff. I still need more people for the Pirate Belly dance show. All dance is labor intensive and it's hard to get people to commit that kind of time to something new and different.
Hope all of you are doing adventuresome projects.

Time to dance

Now that it's cooling off, we are much more inclined to dance. I've had tons of people calling me for classes but I don't have any place to teach it right now! I need a place near Anaheim that is user friendly and more about supporting the arts than making lots of money. I also need a place to practice a fire show, and someone to pass torches with (juggling). And I have an idea for a hoop dance and need to have a work party to cover the hoops with leather. So if you are hankering to join up with someone send me a private message. I'm all ears.

I just found out there is a Mecda belly dance event on Dec. 18 in San Luis Obispo, CA at the Vet's hall. And I'm doing a show in the area on Dec 19, which means I have Sat. free to go to the belly dance festivities. Yay me! It's tribal, so I need to finish my new tribal costume. Woohoo. Can't wait.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dance your way to a cure.

I'm trying to encourage the dancers I know to get into their favorite pink costume, or get a pink costume, and turn up at Breast Cancer Awareness walks or speeches or events. Don't forget that food is fuel and feed yourself well.

Oops

Tonight I did something that only a belly dancer would do. I dropped a brass Aladdins lamp on my toe. I wasn't even dancing, I knocked it off when I was reaching past it to get something else. At least the cut is on top of my toe, so I should still be able to teach dance tomorrow.

Making costumes

I'm working on 2 belly dancing vests, and I think I've figured out how to make them reversible. One will be black crushed velvet on one side and blue faux suede on the other side. The 2nd one will be a rose print on a black background on one side, and black stretch velour on the other.
Or course today when I had a day off, I didn't feel like sewing. Tomorrow is the day I teach belly dancing so I won't get to sew most likely. I do hope to have them done before Samhain (Halloween) so I can dance in them at parties that weekend.

Cairo Carnivale in California

Cairo Carnivale is this weekend in Glendale. I have been telling my students about it every week for 2 months so I hope they make the effort to go at least one of the days. It's been years since I performed there, but there is always so much to see and buy and do. If any of you don't know about it, all the details are at http://www.mecda.org. It is once a year. But MECDA also has monthly belly dance parties and a big banquet in the fall, and a newsletter. So don't be a couch potato. Head to Glendale this weekend.
